The Catholic Church owns about eighty percent of the spanish artistic heritage. Its estimated properties include over a hundred thousand pieces of real estate. No less than seventy percent of the total livable floor area of cities like Toledo, Ávila, Burgos or Santiago belongs to the Church. Only in Madrid it owns more than a thousand monasteries, a similar number of dwellings, plus almost five hundred churches with adjacent buildings.

Nada menos que el setenta por ciento del suelo habitable de ciudades como Toledo, Ávila, Burgos o Santiago pertenece a la Iglesia. Sólo en Madrid posee más de mil conventos, un número parecido de de viviendas, y casi quinientas parroquias con sus edificios colindantes.
